Ring and Eufy are two of the most popular security camera brands in 2026, but they take fundamentally different approaches to home security. Ring is built around the Amazon ecosystem, cloud storage, and optional professional monitoring. Eufy is built around local storage, no subscriptions, and maximum privacy. Choosing between them depends on what matters more to you.
Ring: The Amazon Ecosystem Camera
Ring cameras integrate seamlessly with Amazon Alexa, Amazon Echo Show displays, and other Ring devices like the Ring Alarm and Ring Video Doorbell. The Ring app is polished, feature-rich, and handles multiple devices well. Ring Protect plans start at £4/month per device or £10/month for all devices, unlocking 60-day video history, smart alerts, and Alexa Greetings.
Without a subscription, Ring cameras offer live view and motion notifications but do not record or save footage. This is a meaningful limitation — if you want recordings you will review later, a subscription is effectively required.
Ring’s motion detection has improved significantly in recent years. Person alerts are accurate, and the new 3D Motion Detection on the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 is genuinely excellent. Ring cameras also have good two-way audio with noise cancellation on most models. See also: Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro review and Ring Alarm 5-piece kit review.
Eufy: Local Storage, No Subscription
Eufy cameras store footage locally via microSD card or the Eufy HomeBase hub. There is no subscription required — ever. This is Eufy’s strongest differentiator and appeals strongly to buyers who want long-term cost savings or prefer not to have their footage stored in the cloud. The HomeBase 3 stores up to 16TB locally and can back up to the cloud optionally.
Eufy cameras also support Alexa and Google Home. The 2K and 4K resolution options are excellent, and the SoloCam line offers solar-powered cameras with strong image quality. The main weakness historically has been the Eufy app, which is less refined than Ring’s, though it has improved substantially in recent versions.
Eufy had a security incident in 2022 involving briefly accessible cloud thumbnails, but has since added end-to-end encryption across all cameras. Privacy-conscious buyers should review their current privacy settings documentation before purchase.
