Arlo Pro 5S Review: Is It Worth the Price in 2026?

By hs_pfroum June 8, 2026 2 min read

The Arlo Pro 5S is Arlo’s flagship wire-free security camera in 2026. It promises 2K resolution, an integrated spotlight, colour night vision, a 180° field of view, and Arlo Secure AI detection. But at £180–£200 per camera, it is one of the more expensive options in the category. Is the performance worth the price?

Design and Build Quality

The Arlo Pro 5S looks premium. It is compact, weatherproof (IP65), and mounts magnetically to a base that can rotate 360°. The magnetic mount is one of Arlo’s best features — repositioning the camera takes seconds, making it easy to adjust coverage over time or move the camera seasonally. The built-in spotlight illuminates up to 25 feet in colour at night, and a 105dB siren is embedded in the housing.

Video Quality

2K HDR video is excellent. Daytime footage is sharp, well-exposed, and captures fine detail at distances up to 40 feet. The 180° field of view is genuinely wide — wider than most comparable cameras — and the distortion correction in the app is good. Night vision via the spotlight delivers true colour footage even in complete darkness, which is significantly more useful for identifying clothing, vehicles, and faces than infrared black-and-white.

Motion Detection and AI Features

Without an Arlo Secure subscription (from £9.99/month or £99.99/year), the camera offers basic motion detection with a 7-day free trial of Arlo Secure. With the subscription, you unlock person, vehicle, animal, and package detection, plus 30-day rolling cloud storage, activity zones, and rich AI notifications. The detection accuracy is genuinely among the best in the category — false alerts are rare even in busy outdoor environments.

Battery Life

Arlo claims up to 6 months battery life. In practice, with frequent activity and the spotlight enabled, expect closer to 2–4 months. The Smart Charging Arlo Solar Panel Charger (sold separately, around £50) extends battery life significantly and is worth adding for permanent outdoor positions. The redesigned battery in the Pro 5S charges faster than earlier Arlo models via the included USB-C cable.

Verdict

The Arlo Pro 5S is genuinely excellent. The 180° field of view, spotlight quality, and AI detection accuracy are all best-in-class. The cost — both device and subscription — is high. If you are building a premium security setup and want the best wire-free outdoor camera available, it is worth the investment. If budget is a priority, the Reolink Argus 4 Pro offers 4K and solar charging for around £70–£90 with no subscription required. Score: 9.0/10. See all camera reviews and comparisons here.
